Hoe kun je je zo vereenzelvigen met iemand dat het je leven gaat beheersen?
Eind 2016 begon ik met het volgen van Elske Rollema met mijn camera

Ze speelde een solovoorstelling over het leven van Fien de la Mar, een Nederlandse actrice die in 1965 is overleden. Naast de voorstelling besloot ze een film te maken over Fien.
Ik was nieuwsgierig naar haar fascinatie met deze actrice die allang was overleden voordat Elske was geboren. Ik had geen ervaring in het maken van documentaires en ik kwam tijdens dit proces tot de conclusie dat ik nog veel te leren had. Ik starte met de opleiding Regie Documentaire bij de Amsterdam Filmschool. De film over Elske en Fien liet ik liggen en na de opleiding pakte ik het weer op en ronde ik de film in samenwerking met componist Egmond de Bruijne in 2022 af.
How can you identify with someone so much that it takes over your life?
At the end of 2016 I started following Elske Rollema with my camera. She performed a solo performance about the life of Fien de la Mar, a Dutch actress who passed away in 1965. In addition to the performance, she decided to make a film about the life story of Fien.
I was curious about her fascination with this actress who had passed away long before Elske was born.I myself had no experience in making documentaries and I came to the conclusion during this process that I still had a lot to learn. I started with the Documentary Directing course at the Amsterdam Film School. I let the film about Elske en Fien be and picked it up again after the course, and finished the film in collaboration with composer Egmond de Bruijne in 2022.
